A HUMAN SAGA SET DURING INDO - PAK PARTITION.
After two years of silence, period-films are back as Director Chandraprakash Dwivedi gets set to enthrall movie-viewers with his latest film, Pinjar.
The story of Pinjar reveals many of the types of tragic atrocities committed during this time period, and illustrates the existence of love and victory during a backdrop of hate and violence. However, the film focuses on the incidents of rape that plundered towns along the border.
Pinjar includes the story of Mohanlal and Tara, their two daughters, Puro (Urmila Matondkar) and Rajjo (Isha Koppikar) and their son Trilok (Priyanshu Chatterjee). Puro is a young women, engaged to marry Ramchandra (Sanjay Suri), a rich Indian poet. Puro excitedly waits for her day to be married to the man of her dreams when the unfortunate occurs. A day before the wedding, she is kidnapped and raped by an angry Rashid (Manoj Vajpayee). Unlike other women who have been victims of such hatred, Puro decides to change the direction of her life after the incident.
The musical score of Pinjar is one to look out for. Music director Uttam Singh is at his best in this album, utilizing Punjabi folk to blend with the storyline. The beautiful lyrics have been composed by the renowned Pakistani poetess, Zehra Nigah, with the help of Gulzar, whose lyrics work like a charm to elicit pathos from listeners as he himself holds horrid experiences of the partition
