Aan: Men At Work

Madhur Bhadarkar too tries to test his skills in Aan the all cops drama that has become the must try by most filmmakers. Whatever the case maybe the most common factor is the presence of Akshay Kumar (Khakee, Police Force and Aan) along with him Sunil Shetty and actor turned M.P Shatrughan Sinha makes a comeback as a powerful and dedicated cop.

This time the men at work being crime branch police officials – Askhay Kumar (DCP Hari OM Patnaik), Sunil Shetty (Sub-Inspectors Appa Kadam Nayak), Shatrughan Sinha (Senior Inspector Vikram Singh) and Paresh Rawal (Constable Khaled Ahmed).

Vikram Singh who has been in Mumbai Crime Branch for years has left all hopes of cleaning the system. Then there is Appa Kadam, an encounter specialist, who believes the only to clean up the grime in the system is to eliminate the offenders. But both of them are paralyzed by defunct law system. They are waiting for a senior who understands their problems. In comes Akshay Kumar, a young law abiding IPS police officer. He means business and is determined to change the system. Once he understands the situation and people he is pitted against he decides to take the system heads on by hook or by crook. These bunch of daredevils wage a crusade against the crime in the city. And as they dig they find out they are pitted against who’s who of the society.

The three officers find themselves at loggerheads with the new officer, who is determined to change things. The opportunity arises when Manik Rao gets businessman Ajit Pradhan [Milind Gunaji] eliminated by Yusuf Pathan's younger brother [Rahul Dev].

Pradhan's murder opens a Pandora's box. Hari and his men set off on a trail to nab the people behind this hi-profile murder. AAN may not be the most original script you've witnessed, but it does boast of several engaging moments.

The film takes its own time to come to the point, which explains why the viewer gets restless in the first half. The introduction of each character, especially that of Akshay and Suniel, grabs a lot of footage. However, the introduction of these two actors has been filmed most imaginatively.

Music [Anu Malik] is a mixed bag. The two numbers that stand out are the ones filmed on guest performers -- Gauhar Khan and Reema Sen. Cinematography [Madhu Rao] is fantastic. The lensman has captured the realistic atmosphere with as much flourish as the glossy visuals. Dialogues are power-packed.

Action heroes Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty live up to their sobriquets, turning in power-packed performances. Muscle power never had it so good. Former Union minister Sinha, who took special permission from the prime minister to shoot for this film, has an endearing presence and gets the best lines. Paresh Rawal, as always, is a barrel of laughs. Irrfan can pat himself for another job well done. Jackie Shroff, Om Puri, Rahul Dev provide adequate support, though Rajpal Yadav and Vijay Raaz aren't made the best use of as comic relief.

On the whole, Aan offers nothing extraordinary as far as the music is concerned it gives its share of item songs and love tracks.
