Dil Maange More

Dil Maange More is about Nikhil (Shahid Kapoor), who is in love with Neha (Soha Ali Khan), an ambitious girl who leaves their village, Samarpur, to come to Mumbai and become an air hostess. Nikhil follows her to Mumbai to bring her back. He does not succeed.

He gets a job at a music store in Mumbai, and falls in love with colleague Sarah (Tulip Joshi). But fate has something else in store for him. He meets another girl, his neighbour Shagun (Ayesha Takia). Just when you feel everything is finally working out, his earlier two girlfriends want him back!

DIL MAANGE MORE is more of a light entertainer, but is shades different from the David Dhawan and Priyadarshan brand of movies. The situations are straight out of life, the light moments have some logic behind them, there's a reason for everything that happens in most parts of the film.

Director Ananath Narayan Mahadevan shows a marked improvement as a storyteller, but the story he chooses to narrate isn't that fanciful. To start with, a simple story has been stretched to such a degree that by the time it reaches the finale, it not only gets complicated, but also doesn't keep you involved in the goings-on.

Is the best of Himesh Reshammiya behind him? Early in his career he did his best work for the two Salman Khan starrers, "Kahin Pyar Na Ho Jaye" and "Tere Liye". Most of what the music maker has done since then has been a residual rhythmic exercise. In "Dil Maange More" Reshammiya with his constant wordsmith Sameer tries to be oh-so young and hip, as Sonu Nigam and company give lip to tunes that go from flip to flip, and flip to flop.

Soha makes a lovely debut reflecting her genes. The actress is very good on an individual level and can hold her own, but needs to get into dancing classes. Her diction is impeccable and it shows how important it is for a well-educated actress to enter the field as it brings so much life into the character.

Ayesha Takia is bubbly. Since she gets the guy at the end of the film, it is so important that this should have been her debut film as she has better scope to perform as well.

Tulip Joshi who made a bad debut in Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi before doing the brilliant but unreleased Matrubhumi has done a better job than what she did in the Yash Chopra product. Experience shows.

On the whole, DIL MAANGE MORE is an ordinary product that has its share of limitations.
