Spice Team Entertainment's Shukriya is a mish mash of a supernatural drama, a love story and a feel good family saga, and falls flat on all three counts.
Shukriya is the story of Sanam (Shriya Saran), daughter of Jindal (Anupam Kher), a rich businessman. Sanam is in love with Ricky (Aftab Shivdasani).
Thus begins a saga of misadventures wherein the two attempt to achieve their goal. Their first attempt is at robbing a bank and sure enough they end mucking it up and how!
Raveena Tandon is a bumbling police officer and her ambition is to catch the biggest don in the city, to prove herself to be the worthy daughter of her illustrious father. Suniel Shetty turns out to be her new neighbour. He wants to become a don and she wants to catch a don.
Aftab Shivdasani is Ricky the angel of death who comes knocking at the door of Jindal (Anupam Kher) a London based successful businessman. Ricky informs Jindal that he has been granted only four days to live. Suddenly Jindal realizes that he still has so much of unfinished business and begs for some more time.
Jindal embarks upon a journey of narrating stories of life to Ricky and within the due course he himself realizes how valuable life is. To keep his life he must engaged the mysterious stranger by the magic of his stories. All was going well when the most unthinkable happens Ricky falls in love with Jindal's daughter Sanam (Shriya Saran).
Jindal has a choice to make love for his life or love for his daughter. Shukriya becomes a touching saga where life chooses to die and death chooses to live.
Shukriya has neither highs nor lows, but is just a static collage of scenes, making the film seem a lot longer than its two and a half hours. The performances range from pedestrian (Anupam Kher, Rati Agnihotri) to completely wooden (Aftab, Shriya Saran).Direction by Anupam Sinha is as uninspired as uninspiring. Music by Vishal-Shekhar, Yogendra-Devendra and Himmesh Reshammiya is forgettable.
Shriya Saran is an actress to watch. Anupam Kher is in form after a long, long time. He takes to his part like a seasoned player. Rati Agnihotri is first-rate. Newcomer Indraneel needs to loosen up a bit. Rana Jung Bahadur provides some entertaining moments. On the whole, SHUKRIYA will meet with mixed reactions from moviegoers
