Tanya (Rimii Sen) is a beautiful young woman who is in love with Karan (Shahid Kapoor), a sweet and handsome boy who happens to live down the street. However, when Tanya stumbles upon some information about a pair of local gangsters, she finds herself in great danger and must leave town for her own good. Tanya sets out for Dubai, but it isn't long before Karan misses her so much that he decides to find her. Not knowing where she's gone, Karan hires a private investigator, Rocky (Akshay Kumar), to follow her trail, but while Rocky is able to find Tanya easily enough, when he sees her he immediately falls head over heels for her and isn't especially interested in handing her over to Karan. Sanju (Suniel Shetty) is another young man who carries a torch for Tanya, and after she goes away he also sets out to find her; when he discovers Rocky wants to make her his own, he is determined to stop him, even though he's handicapped. And is this the end of the parade of men falling for Tanya? Not by a long shot. Deewane Huye Pagal was shot on location in India, Dubai and Las Vegas, Nevada. ~ Mark Deming
Other than the part about the scientist, Deewane Hue Pagal is a complete copy of There's Something about Mary. It has an interesting climax though, and some hilarious dialogues. The action sequences are also good, especially the ones involving bikes. Rimmi Sen has done an okay job, but one tends to expect more from her. Rimi Sen is competent, but she needs to do something seriously about her styling. Otherwise, she does her part well.
A good performance by Akshay. Like his character Rocky, he rocks. His comic timing is perfect, and he steals the show.
Shahid Kapoor is good, but has little to do.
Paresh Rawal is a scene stealer yet again. His sequence with Suniel Shetty at the music video shoot is amongst the most memorable sequences of the enterprise. Johny Lever is superb, especially in the sequence when Akshay cooks up an alibi about Rimi, when Johny and Shahid set foot in Dubai.
Anu Malik has had his good years and his bad. He has had his good soundtracks and his bad. But Deewane Huye Paagal is just plain old terrible on all accounts but more particularly that which describes that he sung half of the songs on the album. For Malik, this soundtrack should be best forgotten if not for his singing (which is the most forgivable aspect of the soundtrack) for the songs that he shamelessly copied but couldn’t make his own.
On the whole, DEEWANE HUYE PAAGAL is a thoroughly enjoyable entertainer.
