Ek Ajnabee

G S Entertainment P Ltd’s Ek Ajnabee is a lift from Danzel Washington starrer Man ON Fire, which in turn was based on A J Quinnell’s best selling novel of the same name.

This is a compelling story of Suryaveer Singh (Amitabh Bachchan), a misfit in society who finally finds redemption in the smile of a little girl. His life and luck changes when he has to protect the child. In a strange city, he stands alone devoid company. Anamika (Baby Rucha Vaidya) is kidnapped. Suryaveer is felled by the kidnappers bullets and critically injured.

Anamika's wealthy father Ravi (Vikram Chatwal) realizes that no money is enough to save his daughter. Her helpless mother Nikasha (Perizaad Zorabian) hopes that her prayers will somehow be answered.

Except for the child artiste, Amitabh Bachchan has a solo run of the screen. The other characters are either inconsequential or ineffective. Though, for a while, Arjun Rampal is fun to watch despite his ill-defined role. Among the rest, only child artiste Rucha Vaidya impresses. Perizad Zorabian is just about passable.

This movie brings forth the kidnapping industry that is very prominent in Thailand. Also it shows Amitabh Bachchan in the central role after a very long time. He is looking like a true avenging hero of today’s times. Baby Rucha is simply adorable. She very much looks like a spoilt child but with a heart of gold. She puts enormous contribution to the first half where one likes to keep on watching the growing bonding between Bachchan and Rucha. The movie draws to intermission with the kidnapping. The second half off the movie is strictly passable for the movie is left with Big B chasing the bad guys and all. Also after Rucha’s kidnapping there is not a strong contender left in the movie to make up with Big B.

Rucha Vaidya matches Amitabh through the first half of the movie as she breathes in life into the dead soul of Suryaveer and gives him a new meaning to life.

The movie loses steam in the second half after a racy first. Arjun Rampal tries to do justice to his role, but in vain. The film's music is funky and may soon rock discotheques. Baby Rucha is simply adorable. It wouldn't be wrong to state that the young actor matches up to Bachchan in every sequence, contributing enormously to the first half.

On the whole, EK AJNABEE has a great first hour, but only a decent second.
