Farhan Akhtar is coming back with a stylized remake of he Amitabh Bachchan classic Don with the same title. Farhan's movie Don stars the king of bollywood Shah Rukh Khan. Khan plays the double role of Don and Vijay while Priyanka Chopra plays Roma. The music for the film has been composed by the Shankar Ehsaan Loy trio.
Don of a Shah Rukh Khan is only a bad man. He loves to kill his enemies. Don Ke dushman kee sabse badee galti yeh hai kee woh Don ka Dushman hai. The police are on his case, he works for a big Indian drug smuggler called Singhania and has set base in Malaysia. He kills an accomplice Ramesh who tries to move away from his gang, and then kills his girlfriend (Kareena Kapoor) as well when she tries to get him caught. Ramesh’s sister Roma (Priyanka Chopra) is now on his case and wants revenge. She joins the Don’s gang.
But a cop D’Silva (Boman Irani) is on Don’s trial and gets close to him many times. During one such time when he chases Don down to India, he gets hold of him. He then holds him hostage without arresting him and then gets a duplicate Vijay (SRK again) to masquerade as the real Don. Vijay is taking care of a lost kid Deepu whose education D’Silva promises to fund. Vijay manages to escape and is now on the lookout for the one last piece of evidence that can get him out of the mess. Helping him on this quest are two people: Roma [Priyanka Chopra] and Jasjit [Arjun Rampal].
Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's music is strictly functional. The only track that's worth a mention is 'Ye Mera Dil Pyaar Ka Diwana' and S-E-L cannot get credit for it because it's not their composition. Mohanan's cinematography is of international quality. The opulent look and sets are well captured by the lensman and so are the eye-catching locations of Malaysia. "Yeh mera dil pyaar ka deewana" is the next track and the trio has added their own beats to give it a contemporary feel. Sunidhi Chauhan renders her voice to the song and sets the groove. One can sum up by saying Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy has done exceedingly well with the soundtrack "Don" and it will help them to establish their supremacy.
SRK carries a massive responsibility on his shoulders since direct comparisons with Bachchan are foreseeable. SRK does very well as Don. Priyanka Chopra carries off her part with élan. Arjun Rampal's character could've been better developed. Isha Koppikar is alright. Kareena Kapoor's much-awaited portrayal of Helen's groovy number, Yeh mera dil is hot but not blazing. Bebo looks super sexy in gold but the hyper dance movements don't do her any justice.
On the whole, Don - The Chase Begins Again Don disappoints. DON does not meet the expectations as a film.
