Khoya Khoya Chand

This film KKC is set between the period of 1953and 1965. Junior artist nikhat goes through multiple casting couches from the early age of 14 years till she grabs the attention of famous hero prem kumar who gives her a big break. He also patronizes zafar who is a writer with a ill fate who alleges his father for his future’ debacle. Zafar prepares the script for prem kumar and becomes his favorite as this film becomes a block buster. Nikhat also makes her debut with this film and makes the top heroine Ratna to be insecure for her place. And due to constant interaction zafar and nikhat come close and start a relationship. prem kumar comes to know all this and feels that his beloved nikhat will dump him for zafar . he tries to ruin the life of zafar and drops them both in his next film . But the director of the film quits prem kumar and makes a film with zafar and nikhat which becomes a super hit . Then there is a twist in the story zafar and nikhat who marry after their films hit start to fell insecure about each other. zafar who signs nikhat for his directorial debut film is rejected by his wife and she also wants her life away from zafar due to some misunderstandings. So zafar signs Ratna and the film proves to be a big flop. Meanwhile nikhat goes back to her mentor prem ji and a film is signed. But unfortunately she dies due to a hole in her heart and a tragic ending is observed but not before zafar directs a triangular film with prem ,nikhat and himself in a character. He also depict his life experiences with his father who haunts him as a ghost to and taunts him for whatever he has done to nikhat in his marriage life.

Sudhir Mishra’s Khoya Khoya Chand fails in grabbing the attention and making an impact. This time the movie fails not because of its behind-the-time story line but due to many other imperfections that speak loud. Although Mishra’s execution of some sequences is first-rate, the flaws in the rest is over powering. The movie fails to make an appeal because of its inconsistent pace. Also at constant intervals you find sequences that just add to the run time and have no significance. You also find it difficult to understand the relationship that some characters share. Take for instance the relation that Shaymol (Vinay Patak) and Nikhat share in the second half of the movie. They don’t seem like bhai-behan and if Shaymol took care of her in bad times as a boy friend (that’s what I understood from the scenes), then why doesn’t he revolt when Nikhat decides to get back to her lost love Zafar. Also the feel of the 50’s is not created effectively.

Sudhir Mishra captures the behavioural pattern of stars, budding actors and film-makers to perfection. Mishra's execution of a number of scenes is exemplary. Shantanu Moitra's music is in sync with the old-world charm. The title track is lilting, while 'Ye Nigahen' is equally exuberant. Sachin Krishn's cinematography is striking. The production design [Gautam Sen] is first-rate. Ditto for the costumes [Ashima Belapurkar and Niharika Khan]. Shiney, Soha and Rajat Kapoor -- deliver sterling performances. Shiney is a complete natural, expressing the anguish through his eyes. Soha is a revelation. This film exhibits her potential to the optimum. Rajat Kapoor is only getting better with every film. Sonya Jehan is effective. Saurabh Shukla is in terrific form. Sushmita Mukherjee deserved more footage. Vinay Pathak is excellent. Dipannita Sharma is okay.

On the whole, KHOYA KHOYA CHAND is a sincere effort.
