Kal Ho Naa Ho

KAL HO NAA HO is the story of Aman, Rohit and Naina's journey together. How they discover themselves, find the courage to love and come together to celebrate life is what the film is all about.

Naina Catherine Kapur (Preity Zinta looking absolutely divine and better than she has looked ever before) is a girl who has aged beyond her years. She has a very serious view of life, and has stopped enjoying it. Her mother Jennifer (Jaya Bachchan) and grandmother (Sushma Seth, yes the same one mouthing “Don’t fall in love, but rise in love” in “Taal”) are constantly bickering with each other. Their bickering has left her miserable, and she feels she does not have anything to be happy about in her life.

Preity’s buddy Rohit Patel (Saif Ali Khan in a character very similar to his “Dil Chahta Hai” role) is not exactly god’s gift to women. But he thinks he is. He is pretty desperate to get hooked, but does not see it happening in the near future. He sees Preity as a friend, and nothing beyond it.

Then enters into their life Aman Mathur (Shahrukh for a change not using his favorite names Raj, Rahul or Aryan) who barges into their lives and starts changing them with his attitude towards life and diehard bonhomie. Preity hates him initially, but soon starts appreciating his efforts to cheer her up.

Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's music is melodious and sounds fresh to the ears. Of the songs, 'Pretty Woman', 'Mahi Ve' and the title track sound pleasant. The choreography [Farah Khan] is topnotch.

Shah Rukh excels as the supercool Aman. He reiterates his King Khan status with Kal Ho Naa Ho. Given SRK's performance, it is all the more important to take note of Saif, whose Rohit Patel will be remembered just as much as his Sameer in Dil Chahta Hai. Saif is first-rate, and your heart goes out to this under-rated actor. Preity Zinta slips into character beautifully.

Kal Ho Naa Ho will carry you with its exuberance
