Main Hoon Na

Farah Khan's directorial debut is a film which caters to all the audiences that one can think of, barring the intellectual ones.

Major Ram Prasad Sharma is the son of a fearless Brigadier Shekhar Sharma (Naseeruddin Shah) who lived for his country and died for the same cause. Major Ram is assigned on a mission called Mission Milap that will bridge the two nations that were the result of the biggest partition in history wipe the enemy lines and become friends. But Raghavan (Suniel Shetty) will not let that happen at any cost to make this end meet he has set his eyes on Major Amarjit Bakshi's young and reckless teenage daughter Sanjana (Amrita Rao). Undercover soldier Major Ram begins his school once again his secret is best guarded by the Principal (Bomen Irani) of St. Paul's school.

He has interesting encounters with cool dude Lucky Laxman (Zayed Khan); Sanjana, the tomboy (Amrita Rao); physics professor Raghavan (Suniel Shetty) and the forgetful school principal (Boman Irani). While coping with his new life in school, Sharma finds love in his teacher Chandni (Sushmita Sen).

Farah Khan bares the three vital issues at the very start of the film: The Indo-Pak friendship issue and how the terrorists want to foil it, the father-son track and the estranged family [Naseeruddin Shah-SRK/Kiron Kher-Zayed Khan] and guarding a vulnerable teenager from the terrorists even if it means joining her college as a student [SRK-Amrita Rao].

MAIN HOON NA has some thoroughly enjoyable moments in the first half. There's a college principal with a weak memory [Boman Irani], there's a professor who can't get her pronunciations right [Bindu], there's another professor who spits every time he opens his mouth [Satish Shah] and of course, there's a new chemistry teacher who would give any Bollywood actress a run for her money [Sushmita Sen].

Though the music of Main Hoon Na is nothing extraordinary, it fits in with the mood of the film. But action director Allan Amin needs to get over the whole Matrix-Mission Impossible hangover. His action is getting very repetitive.

An album which is good by all standards, it belongs to the class of those musical creations that carry a HIT tag all the way. Also the fact cannot be ignored that good music is always expected when Shah Rukh's name is associated with a project and then his previous releases [Chalte Chalte, Kal Ho Na Ho] have done extraordinary business both musically as well as at box-office. This alone will ensure that the lovers of Bollywood music will lap this album like hot cakes!

Sushmita Sen looks like a million bucks and her on-screen chemistry with SRK is fantastic. Another performance that stands out is that of Zayed Khan. Amrita Rao is another revelation. After a miniscule role in MASTI, the actress comes into form in MAIN HOON NA. Suniel Shetty is fantastic as the terrorist. Naseeruddin Shah is alright in a small, but significant role. Kabir Bedi is equally commendable.

On the whole, MAIN HOON NA Eminently watchable and is a fun film.
