Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon

Chandan Arora has tried to give the mvie a different and fresh look with the sets, the screenplay and the perfromers. He has made sure that it sounds different from the Title itself. Who could think of gving or showcasing the popularity of a Start as famous as Madhuri Dxit and make a movie which actually makes sense with sensibility. He chose Antara Mali for reasons best known to us, but then what would say about casting Rajpal Yadav opposite her, SURPRISED!?!!?!

Antara who is a big Madhuri Dixit fan, like every other fan dreams of making it big in the Tinseltown. She moves and jibes on all the famous Madhuri songs in the village Nautanki and is known as Madhuri of the village. Ms. Mali has done a fine job at imitating the style and the look of Madhuri in her songs like ’’Humko aajkal hai..’’ from Sailaab and ’’Ek do teen...’’ from Tezaab. The metamorphisis of the charcter from a girl who dreams, to a girl who goes to make it big and ultimately realizes how difficult it is to make it big in the Bad bad world of Glitterati.

The first half of the film depicts the aspirations of the girl convincingly. The perils and the hazards that Chutki and Raja encounter at every step, from the time they arrive in Mumbai to facing the camera for the first time for a video, are straight out of life.

But the turn of events in the pre-climax -- when Chutki's film opens to empty houses -- uplifts the film again. The sequence inside a near-vacant cinema hall -- where the film is being screened -- is simply brilliant. Even the end of the film catches the viewer unaware and is, in fact, an apt culmination to the film.

The album starts off with the title track, Tu Banjaayegi Madhuri. The lyrics are completely situational and possesses nothing that would induce a second listen--or a complete first listen! All the vocalists and singers: Antra Mali, Rajpal Yadav, Moulina Singh, Nitin Raikwar, Nisha Lalwani, Ritika Sahani, Amit Khanduri, Raj Shekhar, Teddy Maurya, Sanjay Maurya are competent for what the song offers. (Although, with so many no-name singers, it´s impossible to tell who´s who!) Do youself a favour and boycott this one.

Antra Mali is brilliant as Chutki, expressing the gamut of emotions with élan. The vulnerability that her character exudes comes across very well. Rajpal Yadav is outstanding yet again. The actor conveys the helplessness with utmost precision.

On the whole, while 'Main Madhuri Dixit...' could have done with a better etched (and less convenient) plot, it deserves some points for being real, occasionally cute and original.
