Tere Naam

The industry has barely got over the bumper initial of Rakesh Rosin’s Koi… Mil Gaya when the earth shattering advance booking of Satish Kaushik’s Tere Naam has brought even more happy tidings. While the trade had expected the Hrithik starrer Koi… Mil Gaya would take a flying start, not many were sure about the Salman starrer Tere Naam opening to full houses. But the film, which is being misunderstood as being based on Salman Khan’s true life story, has broken records for advance booking in years.

Salman Khan looks completely different in upcoming film Tere Naam. The new hairstyle totally agrees with his personality altogether. This innovative look of him will imperatively stay with the common people for a longer period of time, as he has been an inspiration for most of the young generation who copies his style all the time. Tere Naam features the likes of Salman Khan and also proves to be a launching pad for a model-turned actress Bhumika Chawla.

Tere Naam is about the Indian Robin Hood Radhe (Salman Khan). He commands respect over his neighbourhood since he is bashing up goons to help those less fortunate. In spite of being an ex-student, he sits outside his college and rags new students. One of his victims is Neerjara (Bhoomika Chawla), a very simple girl.

Radhe falls hopelessly in love with her. Being the daughter of a temple priest, she has never seen violence at close quarters and rejects him outright. As the film progresses, she falls in love with him. But their happiness is shortlived.

Music of 'Tere Naam' is a mixed bag of some good, average and some very average songs. Though it does manage to hold attention in parts (Odhni, Chand, Man Basia), a few other routine tracks just bring back the album to an average category. Salman's fans may be a bit disappointed as the album is not in the class of his recent musical hits (Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Chori Chori Chupke Chupke). The album stands a better chance if the movie runs well. In sum - Average !!

And now to the performances! Salman Khan is exceptional in a role that fits him to the T. He breathes fire in sequences that demand uneasiness. But beneath the tough exterior lies a vulnerable person and this facet in particular comes to the fore in the latter reels. His emotional outbursts are splendid, and making him break down on several occasions is another human aspect that director Satish Kaushik explores -- tough men also cry!

Bhoomika Chawla reminds you of Bhagyashree. Her simple, humble, traditionally Indian character should go down very well with the viewers. Her performance is first-rate.

The other actors, like Sachin Khedekar (who plays Radhe's brother), Radhe's friends and Neejara's fiancé, do a good job.

Though Tere Naam has gone through its fair share of controversies, like the time when Salman slapped Kaushik, the actor proves he is capable of doing more than just getting into trouble. TERE NAAM is rich in emotions -- a fact that would go in its favour completely. The hype surrounding the film has resulted in a strong opening and coupled with its merits, it should prove an earner for its investors. Business in the Hindi belt should prove to be the best, considering the backdrop of the film.
