Kunal Deshmukh Begins His Directorial Innings with JANNAT Date: 04/30/2008 |
 JANNAT will mark the directorial debut of yet another young director, Kunal Deshmukh. The film is scheduled for all India release on May 16, 2008 starring Emraan Hashmi and debutant Sonal Chauhan in lead roles.
This film is yet another offering from the Mahesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt banner, Vishesh Films. Though Kunal has been in prolong association with the Bhatt Camp, and has also served as assistant director for “Zeher” and “Kalyug”, but as a director, this is his first venture.
Kunal has been creative since his childhood and always kept himself indulged in painting, photography, orations and other such creative works. He had a dream to direct a movie, which he initiated to fulfill once, but his family wasn’t supportive enough. Undeterred by this he thought to join an advertising course and further bagged a diploma in Film Direction from America.
The day Kunal was delegated the responsibility to direct JANNAT, was the luckiest day of his life, he believes. “How can I forget that day when Mr. Mahesh Bhatt offered me to direct a film while on the sets of ‘Woh Lamhe’. This is my only ambition, I replied. That’s where Mr. Bhatt liked my self confidence and asked me to see him with a script. I showed him five scripts, out of which JANAT was finalized”, he says.
JANNAT is a love story, with the world of cricket and match-fixing, the real underbelly of cricket, as its backdrop. The story of “JANNAT”, which literally means Paradise, revolves around a man who is caught in a quagmire of crime and consumerism as he struggles to find heaven on earth.
Kunal worked with actor Emraan Hashmi as his lead hero in the film. He has done an excellent job to build an on screen chemistry between the experienced Emraan and debutant Sonal Chauhan. “With an actor as experienced as Emraan, it’s easier to get results you want, and I think this is one of Emraan’s finest performances to date. Sonal has done a great job for a debuting actor.” He adds.
The Kunal Deshmukh directed film JANNAT will be released by Percept Picture Company all over India and Kunal is very hopeful for JANNAT to be well accepted by the audience.
